Barack and the Beanstalk

  1. Alan, this is not really related to your post, but I just read that Colin Powell has done another 180 and changed his position on "don't ask, don't tell". He used to be one of it's staunchest supporters. Now, all of a sudden, Obama's new policy is a wonderful idea to him. That man has his nose so far up the Presidential keester, it's laughable. It seems racism is alive and well in America, especially if you're black ...

Oh, and the cartoon is good too!

  2. I agree that Powell is a totally political creature, but I do not believe that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has anything to do with racism.

  3. I certainly can't claim to know what goes though Powell's mind, but it sure seems awful coincidental that he switched parties when Obama announced his candidacy, and then subsequently switched viewpoints on this subject in apparent support of the President. I don't think the "don't ask, don't tell" policy has anything to do with racism in and of itself, but it seems awfully strange when someone of his age suddenly changes his core beliefs like he has, and it sure makes me wonder why....

  4. Those are legitimate questions to raise.

Powell was never one of my favorite public servants.

I wonder, in lieu of Obama's success, if he is kicking himself for not running for the presidency when he could. As I recall, he had a very high approval rating.

  5. Back then, he would have swept the election in my opinion. He was Republican enough to keep most of the right happy and not only moderate enough to keep the left happy, but black as well. Between those things, and people's respect for him as a General, I'm guessing he could have won with a landslide. Now that he's revealed this aspect of his personality though, I wouldn't vote for him if he was the only candidate on the ballot ...
