Ridding Ourselves of Obama

By Alan Caruba

“The hope that fired up the election of Barack Obama has flickered out, leaving a national mood of despair and disappointment. Americans are dispirited over how wrong things are and uncertain they can be made right again. Hope may have been a quick breakfast, but it has proved a poor supper.” -- Mortimer Zuckerman, Editor-in-Chief, US News & World Report, July 2, 2010

This from a man who on Fox News recently said he voted for Obama, his newspaper, the New York Daily News, endorsed Obama, and that he even helped one of his speeches!

The problem is an ancient one. How to remove from office a king or, in a republic, an elected leader who has broken the law and/or is perceived to be a threat to both the present and future of the nation? In earlier eras, the solution was usually bloody.

“Who will rid me of this meddling priest?” England’s King Henry II was reputed to have said of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury. In 1170, his complaint was obliged when Becket was murdered on a cold December evening.

I cite this famous quote only because the tide is rising among Americans who would be rid of Barack Obama. I would never suggest or condone the sword, but surely one would think we the People might have recourse to the courts or Congress.

The fear in both the courts and Congress is the torturous process involved and, of course, the outcome.

Twice in our history, impeachment has been tried and failed, first with Andrew Johnson whose Reconstruction policies following the Civil War were in much disfavor and, in more recent times, with Bill Clinton whose perjuries and other problems were not deemed to rise to a level worthy of removing him from office. Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

The Constitution stipulates that “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

The drawback of impeachment is the way it would inevitably cast Obama as the victim of predatory politicians. It is not a good choice.

Presumably, lying about one’s eligibility to hold the office of President and spending huge sums to ensure that one’s birth certificate and actual place of birth shall remain unknown would justify removal.

We all know by now that, constitutionally, only a “natural born” citizen may serve as President. His father was a British citizen and both parents must be American to qualify as natural born. We all know that considerable controversy exists as regards the birthplace and citizenship status of Obama. Was he a Kenyan? Was he an Indonesian citizen at one point?

The enduring question on the minds of many is why the court cases filed to get at the facts regarding his eligibility have encountered so much resistance? Surely this is a matter of major national concern. What nation would permit an imposter to serve in its highest office?

Alas, early cases were dismissed when those bringing them were deemed to have no “standing” before the court though one might think the lowliest citizen should have standing.

As wrenching as the process of removing Obama from office via the judicial process might be deemed, there is no legitimate reason not to proceed.

There appears to be no evidence his birth was registered with the American embassy or consulate in Kenya. I have seen a photo of a document said to be his Kenyan birth certificate. Having no way to authenticate it, I am reluctant to pass judgment.

The birth certificate from Hawaii, offered during the 2008 campaign, is said to be one issued upon request as opposed to the “long form” issued for those actually born there. There was some question raised at the time as to its authenticity with allegations that it was photoshopped. There is a question whether a long form certificate exists.

My personal view is that many in government fear the consequences of removing even an illegitimate President from office, given that it would require that all legislation signed into law and all executive orders issued by him would be rendered invalid. I suspect some fear that chaos more than waiting and hoping the electoral process will end his term in 2012.

My problem is that the nation must endure some 900 more days of the malevolence or sheer incompetence he will initiate; including a lame duck session of Congress following the midterm elections that would impose Cap-and-Trade, card check, and other legislative abominations.

A large majority of the electorate presently wants Obamacare repealed and will likely feel the same about the alleged financial “reforms.”

There are constitutional scholars who know far more about such things than me, but I confess to remaining baffled by the failure to attend to the critical question regarding the right of Barack Hussein Obama to be the President of the United States.

  1. The "best" contemporary quote by the King was :-"What miserable drones and traitors have I nourished and brought up in my household, who let their lord be treated with such shameful contempt by a low-born cleric?"
In any event "miserable" is a new one on me: "turbulent" is generally accepted.
    Oh well.

  2. Alan, oftentimes the thing I hate most is when I'm right. You have nicely expressed my thoughts on this subject, so on this one we are again right together. And I hate it that we are right on this one.

It is far more the clowns and monkeys of the main stream media circus, as I deem them, who have caused this ridiculous mess we are in, and it may well be beyond the point where even they themselves could undo what they have wrought.

We Americans and the rest of the world are indeed in for a rough and tragic ride.

  3. My concern with impeachment, is that even IF Biden is impeached with him, that would leave Ms. Pelosi as our next in line. That would be truly dangerous for our country -- more dangerous than leaving the great liar in his position.

  4. Alan,

Soon, maybe next week, I hope to have a coherent Facebook page -- group, cause, whatever -- which is dedicated to MASS IMPEACHMENT of the entire Obama administration. This would include a variety of cabinet members, assistants, czars, plus selected members of Congress. We can expect Holder's office to come after anyone involved in this effort.

My concern is how to create a sold enough base to head off the inevitable attacks by media lap dogs, and hopefully convert them based on issues they've unwittingly already trumpeted, e.g., the environment and economy.

Obama and his administration have provided plenty of bribery, high crimes, and misdemeanors to keep Congress busy for the next 10 years. No place-of-birth issues necessary.

Blocking oil-spill containment efforts beginning day #3 of the mishap and continuing to this day arguably qualifies for most serious charge in the impeachment. All complicit parties, from administration/legislative interests to union-thug cronies must be brought to justice, through the impeachment process, and ultimately turned over for criminal prosecution.

We no longer have time to fiddle around with elections beyond this November when, I hope, we can gain a House with sufficient gonads to move this matter forward. They are, after all, supposed to represent US.

Obama and his handlers are a supremely dangerous bunch. The only way to stop them is a concerted effort by we the people. Only by making politicians accountable for their actions, BEFORE THEY ESCAPE, can we ever hope to put the brakes on this runaway destruction.

To summarize: Impeaching the president is not enough. We need to expose the depth of Washington corruption. Article 2, Section 4 of our Constitution provides the people with an effective tool for peeling back the layers, to ultimately find out who really is running this government.

His Supreme Court Justice appointments will be around a few thousand days more than 900.

  7. I am required by law to insure that any servent I hire be authorized to work in the USA. The president is a public servent. I am a tax paying member of the public, therefore he is my servent, so I would be breaking the law if I didn't do my best to insure that he is qualified to work in that position.

  8. The answer to why these challenges to Obama's legitimacy are failing is simple. Power, money, and greed. At the moment, the Dems have the market cornered on all three. Once support for Obama erodes to the point where there is more to be gained by ousting him than there is to be gained by supporting him, he'll be out the door.....

  9. The Clintons likely know something about the truth. They certainly have the necessary connections. Recall that Bill and Hillary were talking about "constitutional qualifications" during the '08 primary.

Alas, it's pretty discouraging. I have seen no sign that truth will ever be brought to light, at least not when it matters.

  10. Hi Mr. Caruba- I really can't add to what you've so eloquently said here. As for the birth certificate issue. People (from the obama camp that is) call folks who question his place of birth as "birthers" as if we're idiots for asking for proof.
I'm no Constitutional scholar either, but the fact remains, when I am required to renew my greencard, one of the many documents I am to furnish is my birth certificate. I also must have the same for applying for a passport. If I have to show mine, it ought to behoove dear leader to show his. If I can't find mine for any reason, I could be deported. I don't have the gaggle of lawyers at my disposal like dear leader has. If I were a citizen, I'd be on this continually until enough proof is shown to satisfy. After all, John McCain's birth was a big issue before the election because he was born in Panama. Made no difference to many liberals that the only reason why was because his dad was in the AMERICAN Military and his folks were stationed there. The fact that millions have been paid by obama and co. and the fact that they are denigrating anyone who asks, really makes one wonder.
God Bless you Mr. Caruba- have a wonderful week!

  11. It all comes down to one thing ... if Obama had valid proof of citizenship, it would have been freely and openly revealed. He won't produce it, because he doesn't have it, so he isn't a citizen. That's how it would work for ANYONE else in this country. Case closed.

The real question is HOW and WHY is this happening? Who holds the power to circumvent multiple court challenges, and convince dozens of people with the authority to call Obama on this issue to simply ignore it? Get to the bottom of THAT question, and you'll know who really runs this country. I'm afraid most of us wouldn't like the answer ...

  12. Alan:

I loved the picture of the Imperial Obama - Once again a picture speaks a thousand words.

I couldn't help but to think of Louis XVI and the reactionary aristocracy of France on the eve of revolution in 1789.
