Cartoon Round Up

  1. Alan, is there any truth to the last cartoon about Delta? I find it to be in extremely poor taste since most of our pilots are ex military and it would be horribly inconsistent with Delta's business plan to EVER do something like that. I'm very upset!

  2. @Alan:

In regards to the last cartoon:

As retired U.S. Army who logged many thousands of miles on just about every airline of its era (1966 to 1986) - not ONCE was I ever hit up for extra charges for my baggage!

Indeed, countless times I was upgraded from Coach at no extra charge for First Class, which was really nice for that long, long flight from the Philippines (Clark AFB) to San Francisco International.

The G.I.s may have been hit with disrespect, spit balls and anti-war demonstrations in California, this was in 1969, but with the airlines we were treated like kings.

  3. It is true according to news reports that returning military were charged for additional baggage items.

All you needed to do is go to Google "news" and type in Delta Airlines.

Oh ye of little faith! :-)

  5. Thanks Alan. I am appalled at what has happened to my former employer in the last decade. The camaraderie and espirit de corps has tanked amongst the flying force and the ground pounders are not much happier. Like so many companies, Delta has chased the almighty dollar to cover fuel costs and such. When I worked there it was family and everyone worked hard to make it fly. Now few care and most look toward an early retirement, which incidentally is just what corporate wants.
I grieve for my country when this attitude prevails.

  6. My granddaughter was wearing a new necklace with a "peace" symbol on it, as is the style nowadays. I said to her, "I know that is just a popular decoration to you and you don't mean anything by wearing it, but our GI's returning from Vietnam were attacked and spit upon by people sporting that symbol."
She had this hurt look on her face, took it off and I have not seen it since. I wasn't harsh with her, just giving her the history of it and that was all; it took.

  7. @Tunnel: History lessons come in many different ways and yours was an especially good one. When she gets older, she will understand why.
