The Cain Phenomenon

By Alan Caruba

Gov. Chris Christie has dropped out of contention as a GOP presidential candidate. So has Sarah Palin. Fading swiftly is Michelle Bachmann and the others, leaving Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and to the astonishment of a lot of people, Herman Cain.

What would astonish everyone would be a 2012 presidential race between a mulatto, Barack Obama who identifies with his African-American ancestry and ignores his white mother, and Herman Cain who rarely even refers to being a black American because it is increasingly irrelevant as people pay more and more attention to his message.

Cain would crush Obama. One gets the feeling that he got into the presidential race for that purpose.

Obama’s appalling performance in the highest office has seen his polling numbers decline. Obama is likely to be identified as the “American Idol” candidate who went from the Illinois legislature to the U.S. Senate to the presidency in four years. He is a political aberration, the result of media manipulation, and very bad mistake.

Terence P. Jeffrey, editor-in-chief of CNSnews.com, reported on Thursday, October 6, that “The Obama administration passed another fiscal milestone this week, according to new data released by the Treasury Department. As of the close of business on Oct. 3, the total national debt was $14,837,009,271,196.71—up about $44.8 billion from Sept. 30.”

“That means that in the less-than-three-years Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $.212 trillion accumulated by all 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through G.H.W. Bush combined.”

Herman Cain is all about fiscal sanity. Herman Cain is about capitalism. Barack Obama is a Marxist.

Cain’s message is beginning to resonate in Republican circles, especially among those who identify with the Tea Party movement.

This is not to say we can rule out Mitt Romney’s candidacy, though it is increasing clear that Texas Gov. Rick Perry is beginning to sound warning bells in the minds of many Republicans as his charm and bravado begins to thin in the wake of his poor debate performances and his unsteady responses to questions reporters pose.

Daniel Henninger, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, writing on September 29th, gave a brief prĂ©cis of Cain’s resume in the world of business, asking “Does a resume like Herman Cain’s add up to an American presidency? I used to think not. But watching the American Idol system we’ve fallen into for discovering a president—with opinion polls, tongue slips and media caprice deciding front-runners and even presidents—I’m rewriting my presidential-election software.”

Henninger concluded that “Herman Can is a credible candidate. Whether he deserves to be president is something voters will decide. But he deserves a serious look.”

It is a long time between now and November 6, 2012, but I think Republican and, should he get the nomination, American voters, are going to giving Herman Cain a very serious look.

If Cain is elected, it will mean that a nation that fought a Civil War over slavery and waited another hundred years to finally confer full Constitutional rights to African-Americans will confound themselves and the entire world by putting Cain in the Oval Office.

I am not counting out Mitt Romney at this early point. He has become a very good campaigner. He’s refined his message, he is charming, and he “looks” like the Hollywood version of a president. He’s also a RINO, a very moderate candidate at a point in current history when the nation needs and wants radical change if it is to avert the deliberate destruction imposed on it by Barack Obama.

Herman Cain’s website offers his “999 Plan” and it is worth reading because it represents all the steps that must be taken to take American back from the brink of bankruptcy, from massive unemployment, and a thorough understanding of how to achieve that.

The primaries that lie ahead—Florida would vote next week if it could, followed by all the other states—will be the final determination of who will be the GOP’s presidential candidate. There’s plenty of time left for the fortunes of candidates to shift, but like Daniel Henninger, I am giving Herman Cain a serious look.

  1. I too am giving Herman Cain a serious look. So serious, that RINO Romney and Perilous Perry have each taken a back seat to Cain. He is a non-politician, common sense business man with moral integrity and serious resolve. The real challenge for me is to understand why someone with his attributes would consider the job of President. I guess he must also be a patriot. OK then, that's refreshing.

  2. The *Cain Train* may be the way to ride, but it sure looks like a bumpy ride to me...

  3. The MSM will go berserk trying to discredit him as a conservative.

A conservative person of color? They have never had to deal with this before!

  4. Would you mind sharing your views on Congressman Ron Paul's qualifications for the office of POTUS?

I have noticed your omission of his name whenever you make mention of the other candidates, who outside of Mr. Cain, seem like the least qualified bunch of candidates I've seen assembled under one party in a long time.

Maybe it's just that I'm older and paying more attention now but I'm nearly as embarrassed by this group of wannabes as I am of the fraud who currently resides in the white house.

Why do you ignore Ron Paul when many of his ideas seems to closely align with yours?

  5. I can't help but ponder...what if the Republicans put up Herman Cain as their nominee and what if Mr. Cain won the Presidency in 2012 by a massive landslide. Would that finally be the wooden stake throught the heart of the race vampire?

The whole thing would be worth it for that reason alone. Then people like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, et. al., who have a 'stake' (no pun intended) in keeping racism alive and well would have to go out and find a real job.

There is no widespread, general racism in this country. If there were, Obama would never have gotten elected. The majority of his votes were from whites. Of course there are the usual whack jobs and loons out there on the fringe who are still very much racist just like the whack jobs occuping Wall Street are very much marxist; but none of these splinter groups represent the sentiment of main streeet America.

When I look at Herman Cain, I don't see a black man. I see a man. And I see in him a man whose qualifications, ability, experience, and love of country have the imposter Obama beat 1000-fold.

I would much rather proudly walk into a voting booth and pull the lever for a conservative like Cain than to hold my nose again and vote for yet another RINO like Romney. I'd vote for Herman Cain in a heartbeat and so would millions of others.

  6. @The Isle: I do my best to ignore Ron Paul whose views I consider absurd much of the time.

I took note of Cain because he is doing well in the polls and getting the attention of the MSM at this time.

  7. @ Will Harmon: Clearly race is not the factor now that it has been in the past, but I doubt it will ever cease to be a factor that people consider in politics and other areas of life.

  8. Alan, I really appreciate your writing.

My understanding is that Herman Cain is a Federal Reserve Rothschild lackey. He was personally at the head of the vampire sucking the life blood from America.

And who is behind the devaluation of the American dollar and the economic collapse? The globalist bankers that own the Fed are. Through their agent Soros, they are even behind the OccupyWallStreet movement to push for more legislation and controls, that they might be personally granted more monopolistic control over the banking industry! I am afraid that things will not get better for America, they are going to get worse!

We are currently suffering from what the Fed owners have done to America’s economy to further the globalist agenda, it is clear that putting another one of their men in the White House will NOT improve the situation for the People of America.

  9. Ron Paul and qualifications? Seriously??

Ron Paul is good at one thing and one thing only, he maintains that the Fed be audited... That's it, a one trick pony...

  10. @TexasFred
I wouldve thought Ron Paul's contention that we need to reduce the size of the Federal government (eliminate the DOE, EPA, IRS, Homeland security etc), reduce US involvement in the affairs of other countries except as it pertains to our national security, eliminate the Fed and return to the gold standard or some form of it, reduce imports and increase exports and attempt to return to a more strict adherence to the US Constitution should be deserving of merit as well.

    Qualifications?

How many years has he served as a member of Congress? Doesnt that count as a qualification compared to what some of the other candidates bring to the table?

Rather than dismiss my question with a sarcastic "seriously?" would you mind being a little more specific so I will have more information from which I can better judge whether he's a viable candidate or not? It might benefit others who are wondering the same thing as well.

  11. The MSM will try to destroy Cain on his recent "insensitive" remarks that the unemployed have nobody to blame but themselves. Expect adds running at one point, repeating his words. Given the context of the answer, his remarks don't bother me at all. To someone hearing them out of context who has been unemployed for a long time (or who has someone close that is), it will really hurt Cain's standing with them.

As for Cain working for the Federal Reserve: Stop with the Rothchild conspiracy theories here. Read up on the history of money. The Gold Standard, whilst solving a number of monetary issues creates a whole bunch of new ones. It was those problems (deflationary in nature) that brought great debates in regards to monetizing silver and issuing fiat money (United States Notes). Eventually, the debates lead to the creation of the Federal Reserve.

Now putting that aside, Cain has made positive remarks about re-monetizing gold; making the point that the debt must be brought under control first.
