Signs of Aging

For those of a certain generation, this is a reminder that time waits for no man (or woman) as we celebrate Roy Roger's 100th birthday, November 5.

He personified the "good guy" in countless Western films and his TV series. By all accounts, he was one in real life, too. His signature song was "Happy Trails."

America used to have lots of Hollywood heroes like Roy, Gene Autry, and, of course, John Wayne. It's hard to think of one from today's flood of films.

Like many, I miss the Saturday matinees of my childhood. And with good reason!

  1. I miss the performers of my youth, they had something today's performers don't. Whether you call it class or something else they were people you weren't ashamed to bring home to mother. They believed in something bigger than themselves and were proud of America.

  2. I happened to mention John Wayne to a 20 something friend of mine the other day and the young man immediately launched into an expert movie reviewer guide of the Duke's flicks!

John Wayne, Roy Rogers and Randy Scott are as popular dead as they were alive.
