Global Warming? The "Deniers" are my Heroes

By Alan Caruba

It has been nearly three decades since I first wrote that “global warming” was a hoax and I have had to repeat myself countless times since then. Along the way I met many of the so-called “deniers” and dissenters. I had correspondence with others. We all knew that Al Gore was lying. We all know that President Obama is lying,

And yet the lies continue. The most amazing aspect of the hoax is that, despite a decade of global cooling, the mainstream media, print and electronic, relentlessly continue to write about “greenhouse gases” as if they have anything to do with the Earth’s climate.

The primary greenhouse gas in the Earth’s atmosphere is 95% WATER VAPOR. The primary source of warming and cooling on Earth is the SUN.

The claim that carbon dioxide (CO2) has anything to do with the climate, other than to react to changes in it hundreds of years after they occur, is totally discredited, but I still read magazines like Business Week or The Economist, Time and Newsweek, as well as newspapers, whose reporters and editors demonstrate an astonishing ignorance—a willful ignorance—by continuing to publish global warming lies saying that CO2 emissions must be reduced..

Even the advocates of global warming began to speak and write about “climate change” several years ago in order to avoid the obvious fact that the Earth began cooling in 1998.

Climate change!

As if the Earth’s 4.5 billion year history is not one long record of climate change!

As if there would be any life on Earth without carbon dioxide, the plant food of all vegetation that in turn sustains animal life.

Led by Joseph Bast, The Heartland Institute, a non-profit, free market think tank has been at the forefront of the battle for truth for many years. In 2008 and 2009, the Institute brought together the finest minds from the world of meteorology and climatology in conferences that were a marathon of scientific symposia that laid waste to the bogus claims of global warming.

I attended both conferences and had an opportunity to meet some of the “deniers”. In the beginning there were a handful such as Dr. Richard S. Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology, Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He does not suffer fools easily.

Others who joined the struggle against an avalanche of lies about “global warming” included Drs. Patrick J. Michaels, Robert Balling, Tim Ball, and S. Fred Singer, an atmospheric physicist at George Mason University and founder of the Science and Environmental Policy Project, a think tank on climate and environmental issues.

There were other academics that included Dr’s Willie Soon, Joseph D’Aleo, Vincent Gray, and William Gray, all meteorologists and climatologists of international repute, as well as Howard Hayden, an Emeritus Professor of Physics.

In time, a handful of skilled science writers translated the data for the public. They include Christopher C. Horner, Marc Morano, Steven Milloy, Jay Lehr, and Paul Driessen. Dennis T. Avery, a senior fellow of the Hudson Institute, wrote articles that gained favor with the mainstream media and did much to undermine the global warming lies.

Think tanks such as The Heartland Institute, the Hudson Institute, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, C-Fact, and the Business & Media Institute all deserve praise for taking leading roles in disputing and debunking the global warming hoax.

Editor’s note: There are others unnamed for purposes of length, but who are no less deserving of honor.

The propaganda war to smear these men continues to this day. A favorite tactic to discredit them was to post “biographies” on Wikipedia suggesting they were all in the pay of corporations and could not be trusted.

The work of these think tanks and individuals is hardly over. The horrid “Cap-and-Trade bill, its name changed in the Senate to deceive everyone into believing it’s about the foolishness of so-called “clean energy”, is a nightmare of taxation on energy use and a vast transference of billions to near useless “renewables” (solar and wind).

At the same time, access and use of America’s vast energy reserves of coal, natural gas, and oil continues to be denied by a Congress and administration that is hell bent on destroying the nation’s economy.

The “deniers” are being vindicated by Mother Nature. The truths they have been telling are showing up this year in America and around the world in early snowfalls, icy road conditions, and blizzards to come that will bring entire cities to a standstill. Spring and summer may be a little late in 2010.

In time, the “deniers” will be honored for their service to humanity, for their courage, and for hopefully saving this nation and others from the torrent of deceit coming out of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and every environmental organization in America and worldwide.

  1. I'm not so sure that localised early snowfalls point at a cool winter to come. Too many people are jumping on the cooling bandwagon.

  2. The only answer that makes any sense to me about the continued heretical propaganda regarding global warming is the desire to unite the globe under one common cause. The One World Government under the U.N. is a strong possibility. There are many possible reasons for the lies, none of them good.

Those that remain chained to this wacky agenda must have power that comes from "somewhere." Not to mention the money involved in keeping the myth alive.

If cap and trade is made law, not only will the cooler weather debunk the myth, but we will be spending two to three times as much to keep warm!

  3. I would say that if the obvious, and fact-laden, cooling phase is considered a bandwagon then the fraud driven AGW is a gravy train overflowing with clowns
Some of the clowns, however, are bailing off the out-of-control, soon to be AGW train wreck.
Recently, the BBC - that staunch proponent of AGW questioned the veracity of AGW.
A couple of days ago, the British Daily Mail headlined a full colour apparent rejection of Global Warming.
When such heavy weights are jumping on the cooling 'bandwagon' it shows that the floodgates are starting to creak. The sooner that truth, and the belief in the scientific method, is restored to its rightful place within accepted science the sooner the world can properly address the natural changes in climate and mitigate its consequences.

  4. And when Spring arrives a month late, and we're all digging out, they'll just claim it's another clear sign of "climate change" . . . The perpetrators of this hoax have an answer for everything. It'll be years before this scam is exposed completely, just like all the others, but it WILL be exposed. Electromagnetic fields, Y2K, hell I can't think of all the fear campaigns we've suffered over the years, but they all had the same things in common. Fear of some hypothetical threat to our existence, something to buy to save ourselves, and someone profiting from it all. It's the cooperation of the media that makes these hoaxes possible, and that's where we need to focus our attention if we have any hope of putting an end to them.

  5. @Jamie D5: The reason why 'too many people are jumping on the cooling bandwagon' is because too many people are realising that AGW is a BGH, or Big Global Hoax.

  6. Alan
I am of course proud to deny the global warming hoax and am a certified member of the Alan Caruba
    global fan club!

When I turn off the lights after my kids it has to do with my actual fears...like opening up my monthly skyrocketing utility bill which I cannot even imagine I could begin to afford once the socialist "carbon tax
upon everything and everybody "is railroaded through!

Maybe I can find a Halloween costume that is themed as a "global warming denier" this year, I will hold a can in oil in one hand- and instead of passing out candy, I will pass our a coupon for carbon credits to all my liberal neighbors kids! That would be scary!

  7. It is going to snow here today in Pennsylvania and hopefully I'll be xc skiing this evening! BUT. Don't count your chickens yet.
According to the satellites, we are still trending up.

And this year is likely shaping up to be one of the warminst in 50 yrs at least.

  8. Hey JamieD5 - do you not remember all the record lows and the cold summer a few months ago? How about last winter? Or the winter before that? The immediate trend is significant cooling. Open up and look around at the last couple years - 2econd year ice is up in the arctic - look around...

  10. JamesD is correct in his comment. We do not want to discredit ourselves by jumping on that early snowfall horse.

But if you want to see how desperate the UK Ministers are in the face of the facts, see this:

  11. Okay, friends, let's keep in mind that the "weather" is what is outside right now and it is measured in terms of days, i.e. your local weatherman telling you what it is and what it might be four days from now (he's usually wrong).

Climate is measured in hundreds of years. When meteorologists say we're in a cooling cycle, they are talking of decades and, if it continues, centuries. The last little ice age lasted from 1300 to 1850!

@Troy: One of your comments repeated itself and was removed.

  12. The AGW hoax/scam is an attempt, which may be successful, to control all means of production. It has no other purpose. Of course, the ulterior motive of Algore is to also make huge sums of money by trading "carbon credits".
It is unfortunate that too many ordinary citizens are swallowing the lies, hook, line, and sinker.

  13. To all: I have seen a graph showing the 4 cool periods and 5 warm periods of the last 4500 years. I notice that while the warm periods do not peak in any mathematical order, the cool periods are increasing in intensity with respect to time. The Little Ice Age (LIA), the last cooling period, reached the lowest temperatures of all. If this trend continues, the next cooling would be even colder than the LIA. The following link contains the temperature graph. It's very interesting indeed. http://www.c3headlines.com/2009/10/memo-to-us-senators-you-cant-control-it-earths-climate-warms-then-cools-warms-then-cools-and-etc-100.html

  14. At the street level, I think AGW is a message of hope, in the religious sense. Climate is dangerous, it's brought down some great civilizations, destroyed ecosystems and caused extinctions on a vaster scale than humans ever have. Climate change is scary.

But if we can cause the climate to change, then we can unchange it. If we can make it hotter, then we can make it cooler. We can control the weather (yes, I know the difference, but in this debate, for all its solemn intonement by all parties, the difference is immaterial).

Belief that we control the weather makes the world a less scary place.

Al Gore may be a liar, but he's also a shaman shaking bones at the sky to appease the weather gods. Alarmists are the villagers who pay his keep to preserve the harvest.

AGW represents hope for the future, that nature can be our friend, that Thor can be not just induced, but actually forced to hold back the thunder bolts.

  15. Another excellent post Alan.

What's missing though is the motivation for the scam.

When Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment programme says “Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?” and his friend George Soros donates $1Billion to "sustainable energy" in spite of obvious green/left lies, we have to ask about their motives.

We have to appreciate too, the magnitude of their gamble and the lengths they will have to go to to see it succeed...

  16. I always imagine, that after a major earthquake or Tsunami, Al Gore, for a second gets excited only to be let down the next by the fact that, so far, there is no link between seismic activity and the climate. Oh but I bet he's working on it.

  17. Climate alarmist are like zombies. They just keep coming and coming. They will never die. We could see twenty years of cooling and they would still be around, trying to find something to blame the human race for. If it gets really cold, they will blame humans for that too. We just need to get them out of government. A good tar and feather wouldn't hurt either.

  18. We shouldn't forget the late John Daly and his pioneering ‘Still waiting for the Greenhouse blog’. He was a Rottweiler when it came to dismissing AGW claims. How sad he passed so early in his life and missed this exciting period of verification of he's position and those listed by Alan.

Yep John Daly saw through all the emotional self hating hype and labored for the climate truth.

  19. I believe that global warming is also a way to make mentira.Es politics using the phrase as if it had been given a publicist when it really should be called climate change, unstable or unpredictable weather. Climatic changes have always existed but it should be noted that Cirta locations have a climate typical of their region as time goes on iran is becoming another climate than by human intervention losing the property of their own climate or region weather to which we are still not used to seeing or living.
