The EPA Gets Caught in a Big Fat Lie

By Alan Caruba

The notion that the Environmental Protection Agency uses “science” to justify their regulations is false, just like most of the claims they issue on various aspects of the nation’s environment. Their favorite scam is to estimate the number of deaths they will prevent with some new draconian regulation.

The EPA is the American equivalent of the Gestapo, a ruthless enforcement agency with a very Green agenda that is opposed to the use of many beneficial chemicals, every form of energy, and the right of people to be left alone.

At the top of its list of priorities is the destruction of the nation’s economy with special attention to all forms of energy production. Manufacturing anything comes next, followed by afflicting the nation’s vast agricultural sector. The EPA insists that dust is a pollutant. You can’t farm without generating DUST.

To understand the threat the EPA poses it is necessary to understand that proposed Clean Air regulations are based on the claim that “global warming” is real, is happening, and is caused primarily by carbon dioxide (CO2). The claim is utterly without any scientific merit..

There is NO global warming. At least not the kind Al Gore lies about.

The North and South Poles are not melting; they gain and lose ice in a perfectly natural cycle that has been going on for billions of years. The polar bears are not disappearing. Drilling for oil in ANWR will have zero effect on the caribou. Et cetera!

With our vast reserves of coal and natural gas, the U.S. does not lack for the ability to generate electricity or to refine oil for transportation.

If you want to stay warm this winter, you better hope that utilities keep producing the electricity for your home or apartment’s heating system. Fifty percent of that electricity is produced by cheap, abundant coal and the EPA is hell bent to shut down as many coal mines as possible, leading in turn to the shutdown of utilities that burn coal. Natural gas accounts for just over twenty-four percent of electricity generation and it need hardly be said that the EPA is wary of fracking, the technology to access it.

Blowing the Whistle on the EPA

The big news—the kind even the mainstream media was unable to ignore—was that the EPA’s own inspector general has released a report accusing the agency of cutting corners regarding the “science” cited to justify its effort to declare CO2 a “pollutant.”

Simply stated, without CO2 all life on Earth dies.

It is a gas that plants use for their growth. From a blade of grass to a giant redwood, all depend on CO2, as do all the crops grown coast to coast. Enormous quantities of corn and wheat are grown that contribute to the U.S. economy, feeding both livestock and humans in wondrous ways. Take away vegetation and the animals die. Take away the animals that grace our dinner plates and we die.

Absurdly, the EPA says it is a “pollutant”, a dangerous hazard to our health.

No, the most dangerous hazard to our health is the EPA.

The EPA insists on ignoring all the other natural sources of CO2 as well as the fact that it constitutes less than one percent, 0.038 percent of the atmosphere. The oceans of the world gather it, store it, and release it. The EPA, though, says that when man is involved, it is pure evil.

Mind you, every human exhales about six pounds of CO2 every day. The fact is that the air Americans inhale daily is clean is due to the agency’s early efforts to mitigate some abuses. Those were the days before the EPA abandoned a rational, fact-based approach to its stated objectives. One of its legacies is the idiotic required inclusion of ethanol in every gallon of gasoline. Made from corn, it actually produces more CO2 to produce and use.

The EPA effort to regulate CO2 came along with the invention of the global warming hoax that claimed CO2 was “trapping” the Earth’s heat. That is why CO2 and others are deceptively called “greenhouse” gases (GHGs). Manufacturing everything from a donut to megawatts of electricity emits GHGs.

Finally, even the EPA’s inspector general blew the whistle on the utterly deceitful way the EPA arrives at its justification for a vast matrix of regulations that has been stifling the economy for years. The IG has charged that the EPA did not meet its own guidelines for peer review to ensure the integrity of the science stated.

Anyone who has been following the rise and fall of the global warming hoax knows that “peer review” has become a highly corrupted practice. Real peer review is critical to the integrity of any scientific study. When major science journals abandoned the peer review process to publish gibberish about global warming, they put all other new scientific studies at risk.

As Marlo Lewis, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, noted, the EPA’s regulation of CO2 emissions would require “230,000 full-time employees to produce 1.4 billion work hours to address the actual increase in permitting functions” that would result if the EPA is allowed to get away with this scandalous hoax. It would cost an estimated $21 billion per year. By contrast, the EPA’s budget request for fiscal year 2012 is $8.973 billion.

The EPA claims that the Clean Air Act gives it the power to regulate CO2, but it does not. It was never intended to, but the Supreme Court in one of its more idiotic rulings opened the door for the EPA claim. In his dissent from Massachusetts v EPA, Justice Antonin Scalia quipped that, as defined by the Court, “everything airborne, from Frisbees to flatulence, qualifies as an ‘air pollutant’”

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) pointed out that “The EPA’s determination has led to a mountain of Clean Air Act regulations that could cost over a million jobs.” It is noteworthy that Sen. Barrasso said, “EPA administrator Lisa Jackson has regularly assured Congress and the American public that its finding is based on sound scientific practices.” It isn’t. Jackson “should testify immediately,” said Sen. Barrasso, “the American people deserve the truth.”

The EPA has been short on the truth about all of its claims for four decades and needs to be shut down in order to let a truly science-based agency replace it with strict congressional oversight and limitations.

The time is long overdue to pull the plug on the Environmental Protection Agency.

Well said indeed.
To paraphrase a certain British TV presenter: "[the Green movement] is a spiteful drive for less energy, because less energy hits the rich hardest. Only when we're eating leaves under a hammer and sickle will they be happy." We have allowed the eco-fascists too much power, and must check them before it's too late. Pulling the plug on the EPA is a start, but they should be made to answer for what they've done. Have them testify under oath, and then deal with them as the law provides. It's time to take America back from these maniacs. Again, end the EPA: cut off the head, and the serpent dies. Whoever is given that honor can drive them back into obscurity in one fell swoop.

Stopped reading right there. You're a zealot and an ideologue. Can't imagine anything you had to say after that was worth much.

I fear things will never get much better. The Democrats move this country as leftward as they can; Republicans take over (rarely) and merely slow the leftward movement, never reversing it.
Democrats come back and move us further left again so the trend is for America to constantly become ever more socialistic and less free.
More to be feared than the people we put into office are the voters who put them there.

Mambo Bananapatch,

You are absolutely wrong. The EPA IS a Gestapo-like organization. If not, then why does the EPA own shotguns and sidearms? To enforce their will maybe?

The next President should disband the EPA, the DoE, the Dept of Ed, the BLM, to name a few.

This use of global warming is a tool of implementing UN sustainable development Agenda 21. End result is the take over of every area of our lives. We hear about it in the states as smart growth, sustainable development, social justice, or social equity.Even home ownership is on the list because not everyone can afford one & when you sell, you gain wealth so it isn't equitable. After all, have to share the wealth. Obama has already gotten his peace prize from the UN just like Al Gore. The agenda doesn't like capitalism either, so you can see why Obama is tearing down our system.

Global warming is one tool the EPA is using to implement UN Sustainable Development Agenda 21, leading up to a one world gov. Obama already got his award from the UN, he knows exactly what he is doing.People need to research this, freedom advocates.org is one source. their after every area of our lives, don't like capitalism, want public, private partnership. Don't like home ownership, not social equity or social justice.

BINGO!!!

For the democrats it's all about expanding government and grabbing more and more control. That's their plan for lowering unemployment. Just put more people on the public dime.

Therein is the uphill struggle any administration will have in trying to shrink not just the growth of government (because that's not enough) but actually shrinking government itself. Why, the government would have to put hundreds of thousands of American workers out on the street. And where would they go? There aren't any manufacturing jobs left in the country to absorb them. It would be politcal suicide and that's why nothing will be done about downsizing government. In the end, for a politician, it's always about votes.

This country is in a sorry state of affairs. 'Tunnel Dweller' is absolutely correct: "More to be feared than the people we put into office are the voters who put them there". The American electorate, is unfortunately, clueless when it comes to electing trustworthy people. Most don't bother to look beyond the 10 second sound byte or video clip. (For those of us lucky enough to have found your blog which is backed up with fact, we know who are the charlatans and masqueraders).

Also unfortunate, is the fact that too many Americans have their hand out for a free lunch expecting the government to dole out tax dollars it literally steals from the hard working people in the private sector where all real wealth, growth, and collateral benefits from a free enterprise system originate.

The democrats always promise welfare and handouts, and the gullible always buy into it and elect them. Once elected, however, they thumb their collective noses at everybody knowing full well that before the next election, the bubbas will have forgotten all about it. And so the cycle continues.

What I don't understand is why this has been allowed to happen? Why hasn't this out of control agency been stopped? The EPA is not the government, they are only an agency within the government. The heads of that perverted agency could be fired with a stroke of a pen. It concerns me that our elected officials, the ones who could actually do something about this, are doing and saying nothing. This out-of-control agency needs to be shut down and all the eco-freaks need to be listed as domestic terrorists and dealt with accordingly.

The EPA can be corrupt, as can any Govt. or business, but the fact stands. IT is my right to LIFE to have clean air and clean water... free from carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, heavy metal toxins..etc..etc.. that is my undeniable right as a citizen of the USA. I am an "eco terrorist" if thats what you want to call me, however, I am not for biofuels so you cant lump everyone into one big group. The eco fascists??? wow! Let me tell you something! Authoritarians have been able to take advantage of social and economic disruptions thru stories they tell, Propaganda and PR. Its not the little guy wanting clean air and clean water and chemically free food, its the GOVT and the big CORPs finding their authoritarian way to take over the original green movement for their selfish selves! NO GOVT. gains power by offering a cogent analysis of the underlying flaws of a civilization! A cunning fascist would not claim that the capitalist economy collapsed because it was intrinsically unstable and based upon the imaginary inflation of capital.. No clever authoritarian will say that energy shortages are caused by finite supplies of fossil fuels and war! NO! but these sly bigwigs will find a scapegoat and a reason to glean more power and authority and tell you that our economy is weakened by foreign powers conspiring against us, because of bloodsucking citizens leeching our society, or that energy is short because because environmentalists are standing in the way of progress, or that terrorists hate our freedoms! Whatever! Give them your vote! Give them the power! Let them take care of it all for you! (all said sarcastically!!) Hmmm if I remember correctly the Nazis were experts at this type of manipulation! The Germans were in a national frenzy!!!!!

@Lisa: If you reversed all your assertions, you might actually get somewhere near the truth. Capitalism is not collapsing. There are no critical shortages of so-called fossil fuels. Many of the big corporations have been very supportive of green initiatives. Etc. It's amazing how wrong you are on so many issues and facts.

Alan Caruba said...

@Lisa: Regarding the issue of cow ownership, the key fact is as follows:

"The judge went on to hold that the plaintiffs were operating a dairy farm and were therefore subject to the requirements of Wisconsin’s dairy code."

Dairy codes have been around a long time to protect the cows and the public.

If farmers have to obey the law, so does everyone else.

Lisa said :"Hmmm if I remember correctly the Nazis were experts at this type of manipulation! The Germans were in a national frenzy!!!!!" yes indeed it did. They Vilified the Jews. Call them greedy, stupid, ignorant, and not fit to live and needed to be send to concentration camps and worst. Anyone who dare questions that propaganda was treated with contempt. Does this not sound to you what is being said today by YOU and your green Buddies as soon as a scientists or a lay person dare express skepticism when it comes to AGW? You all fly into a rage of verbal abuse “ DENIERS” and a “FRENZY” of attacks and character assassination toward anyone who dare ask question or shows any doubts that AGW is not as scientific as we were lead to believe.

Alan Caruba said...

@acadie: Comparing the scientists (or myself) who disputed the lies of the Greens about global warming with the Nazis is absurd and demonstates your lack of intellect and knowledge of history.

By contrast, Greens have called for the imprisonment or death of the "deniers."

You are a fool and should not bother commenting here again.

Alan I was stating the opposite. I was attempting to show Lisa that it is the Alarmists who are continiously using the Nazis Connection to vilified anyone who does not sgree. If it came across as the other way around I apologize as it was not intended that way one bit.

@acadie: Apology accepted. I misinterpreted your analogy and was concerned others would as well.

Steve said Greens were eco terrorists and should be dealt with accordingly. SO now, persons who want clean air and water are terrorists? That is preposterous!!! Alan, I am a green and I have never said nor heard anything about death or imprisonment of deniers of global warming. As a matter of fact I am not clear if the issue is propaganda or real. What I do know that Pollution does kill and harm (outside of global warming) and the Epa should take steps to give us the cleanest air/water/soil for the USA as possible. Perhaps part of the economic crisis is all a part of globalization and the fact that these huge corporations think more about their bottomline and outsource and build and depend on other countries because they are cheaper and have less rules.. SO what are we fighting for here? To be allowed to lower our standards? TO work for dirt cheap? To allowed to be poisoned?

Lisa have you ever heard someone asking for Dirty air ,water or more pollution? There is less pollution today then we had pre Industrial revolution.. Plagues, all kind of sickness and short life spans comes to mind. Air Pollution is already regulated in the: 1970 Clean Air Act (Amended: 1977, 1990)Unfortunately you and your green friends swallow hook line and sinker that CO2, a life giving Trace Gas, is a pollutant. NASA's James Hansen has called for trials of climate skeptics in 2008 for "high crimes against humanity.” Environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. lashed out at skeptics in 2007, declaring “This is treason. And we need to start treating them as traitors” In 2009, RFK, Jr. also called coal companies "criminal enterprises" and declared CEO's 'should be in jail... for all of eternity."

In June 2009, former Clinton Administration official Joe Romm defended a comment on his Climate Progress website warning skeptics would be strangled in their beds. "An entire generation will soon be ready to strangle you and your kind while you sleep in your beds," stated the remarks, which Romm defended by calling them "not a threat, but a prediction."

In 2006, the eco-magazine Grist called for Nuremberg-Style trials for skeptics. In 2008, Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki called for government leaders skeptical of global warming to be thrown “into jail.”

The conspiracy called "The EPA" has had many catastrophic effects on our society, made possible through its stated purposes at its origin: defending the peoples of this nation against pollution. They are using their power to not only keep us consuming their approved energy sources at higher and higher levels, but are keeping other technologies out of the public eye.

I recommend reading "Inventions Suppressed by The EPA" on BeforeItsNews.com. Here's the link: http://beforeitsnews.com/story/710/100/Inventions_Suppressed_by_the_EPA.html
While this story has been read literally thousands of times, their counter will always show the magic number "1".
This story spells out in a very understandable way how they use their testing protocols to defeat any new technology for fuel efficiency.

We need to stick together, sharing our news, for we cannot count on the establishment to give us anything CLOSE to the "WHOLE Truth."
